    Here’s Something I Don’t Understand

I used to struggle so much with this as a kid that I thought it would drive me insane, this was before I knew anything about NT or autistic dynamics in social situations. It literally feels like that if you break a social rule by accident (even though your social communication is...

    Getting to know me

A great idea for a thread! :) What is your fondest childhood memory?

Is this part of autism? Anybody?

Yep, I have had this problem mostly in office jobs, not so much in warehousing, industry type of work etc. The last office job I had was in an open office, where sales reps answered phone calls constantly in the same room as others, which already made it hard for me to concentrate, and also...

Is talking to yourself considered a form of stimming?

I do this a lot when I am at home by myself, usually pretty similarly like you mentioned, creating scenarios in my head. :grinning: I also did it while I was still in school, to sort of explain or "teach" myself something. It is a great way to de-stress and process difficult situations.

    Experiences with people pleasing

I have been struggling with this issue also myself, and only in the last year or so have actually noticed this and taken steps to deconstruct it. I think it stems from childhood family dynamics like it was previously mentioned in this thread, and then we learn to use this behavior in school/work...

    I often question my intelligence.

Yeah I know what you mean, for me the realization was that in a sense I did not care about myself as much as I thought I did, so all the ways I didn't take care of myself (Didn´t take time to de-stress, poor sleep schedule, poor diet, poor boundaries with people etc.) happened because...

How should girls approach autistic guys?

Probably just go talk to him like you would normally, don't get too frustrated if it feels like he is shutting you down by being shy and/or answering with only a few words, not understanding if you try to flirt etc. He might like you but still somehow freeze and get nervous and feel like he is...

    Bullying at School/Work

    1. In school yes, around ages 13-16 in upper elementary school. Not so much in working life, though I have sensed a strong dislike from some former coworkers because I lacked the skills for small talk and was sometimes considered weird. 2. We stick out like a sore thumb so it is easy to get...

    Initiating your special interest

I have the same exact issue right now, mostly because I am a bit burned out, I don't know will it help when time passes and I get more recovered mentally. I don't know if you have to same but I have this feeling of being kind of stuck in my thoughts so I don't get much done, not stuff that I...

Nice to Meet you :) Merry Christmas

Yeah I don't know much about the differences of Empath and HSP either, from what I've read they seem pretty similar. I think the high sensitivity (atleast for me) was developed as a child as kind of a survival mechanism, because I had hard time understanding what was going on in social...

Nice to Meet you :) Merry Christmas

Welcome! I never had thought about this connection of HSP and autism before but it makes so much sense, I consider myself a HSP. Have you ever done the Myers-Briggs personality type test? It helped me a lot in "self-realization" while studying the HSP stuff etc.?

    New to forum

Yep, I have also a lot of the traits but pretty similar to you, I can function pretty well in independent work and for example in an academic setting. Most of the traits I only discovered during the last year or so while studying autism by myself (became quite a special interest at the time...
