    Asperger's and Fashion

If it's comfortable, I wear it. If it's not, I don't. I only really wear jeans, t-shirt, and a jacket. And a hat. I get a lot of grief for going outside in hats when the weather is nice because the only hats I have are winter-y and people like to point out that I look ridiculous, but I don't care.

    what is your stim?

Contorting my face, making repetitive noises, and banging my fingers against my forehead. When I'm happy, arm-flapping; when I'm stressed, rocking. I also obsessively bite my nails.

I have grown to despise okcupid and the people on there

I met my husband on OKC, as well as going on a few other dates beforehand with guys who were all very polite. Personally, I really liked OKC for dating as someone with Asperger's because of all the questions and bits and bobs you can fill in; so by the time you meet someone in person, they...

    Stuffed Animals

I have a stuffed bee by the name of Harold who goes virtually everywhere with me. My sister-in-law (a fellow aspie) has a stuffed dog that has a bunch of outfits hand-sewn by my mother-in-law.

Does anybody else have short term memory?

My short-term memory is terrible. I was told that it could be an aspie trait by the specialist psychiatrist I see. The worst part of it is when I'm trying to cook and I step out of the kitchen momentarily and completely forget that I'm cooking. Almost burnt the kitchen down twice this year. :(

    Poll: Vacuuming for the Sensory-Sensitive

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of that. I find vacuuming to be generally therapeutic, if it wasn't for the terrible noise.

Do All of You Have a Thing???

My (so far) longest obsession has been stationery and all things mail related. Then, there's my bee-related collection.. :bee:

How Did You React To Being Diagnosed?

I was numb for a few hours, then I cried my eyes out for a few more. I guess I was secretly hoping that it was just something that could be cured with some kind of therapy and then I'd have a normal life. When I found out it was autism, I knew my life was pretty much never going to improve and...

    Claiming JSA? (UK)

The usual advisers can be a little curt, but they have to deal with some very unpleasant people day-in and day-out. I don't know if you've ever been to a job-centre before, but try not to be alarmed by the security guards posted on the door(s) - the sight of which really unnerved me during my...

What's the last thing that made you happy?

My husband took me to my favourite store, and then surprised me with a birthday cake he'd made me.

Can you describe the area surrounding your house?

At the end of our garden, there's fields that eventually back onto the marina where there is much water, many boats.. and, well, the river. The other way, there's about 4 or 5 posh houses, which - with the exception of next-door as they're nice - are mostly occupied by old dears that are...

    Claiming JSA? (UK)

I had to do this some years ago when I was in the process of appealing DWP cutting my incapacity benefit. My advice would be to phone up and ask for an appointment to see the disability adviser (called Disability Employment Adviser) at your local job-centre. They are much more understanding...

    How does asperger affect you?

In a word: badly. I have very bad anxiety virtually all of the time, despite having enough drugs to potentially open my own pharmacy. I cannot leave the house unaccompanied anymore since 'the incident'. I can't sleep without the aid of medication. I dislike eating in general, but I used to have...
