Online and Offline reactions to my Age and Gender

Hi, OkRad. I haven't been to the forum in quite some time, but your thread appeared in a 'current thread' email and drew me in - so you're not *completely* replusive in all ways ;) I have mostly had the opposite reaction in my online adventures and actually, used to LOVE the old chatrooms...

    Hi from Nottingham, UK

Hi. I'm also in the UK. Whilst I haven't yet decided whether to seek diagnosis (my son was recently diagnosed and in learning about ASD because of him, I came to the startling realisation that I am probably firmly on the spectrum myself; likely AS although as I understand it they do not...

    Looking a lot younger?

This is me earlier this year in May... I'm 42 in a couple of months :)

    Extremely Secretive

So much of what has been said throughout the thread resonates HARD. Let's just say most of what has been mentioned applies to me (except... wait. You willingly INVITE people over, Progster?! :P I'm more with the previous poster who doesn't invite anyone and will wriggle out of anyone inviting...

High functioning but mild or more severe ASD

Yes, Tom, I think that hits the nail squarely on the head, as it were: high functioning relates to cognitive and physical development. Given autism is a social communication disorder, then if you're high functioning enough that your cognitive and physical development hasn't been affected...

    Lurker's Intro :)

The idea of seeking diagnosis is creeping into my thoughts. If I'm absolutely honest, I think my son's disgnosis has made it clear to me that I'm on there somewhere...and instead of feeling relief/identity, I've kinda shut down. I'm a pretty pessimistic person, anyway. So if I try and grasp at...

What was the last movie you watched?

I finally watched Nightcrawler about a week ago. Extremely uncomfortable viewing but superbly shot/acted.

    Why are people so dumb?

Do you think would autonomous decisions exist in a purely logical society? And if they do - why would it be only the woman's decision when the embryo is half, genetically, the father's too? If this highly intelligent society has already 'mastered' illness to the point where it can all be treated...

    Why are people so dumb?

Ah. So, presumably, treated 'at source' - in utero? At birth/as it presents... in a way that cures? And, so, disability effectively doesn't exist? We already have genetic screening/embryo screening for severe health problems. Does logic determine these 'potential' people not exist in the first...

    Why are people so dumb?

To clarify - I'm not in ANY way suggesting a high intelligence/logical thinking leads one to ableism. I'm suggesting that we all need each other - we all have value... including the 'dumb' NTs ;)

    Why are people so dumb?

So, it's your belief, knowing humans as you do, that a highly intelligent logical society would have a (large) percentage who would dedicate themselves to caring? I mean caring as a profession.

    Why are people so dumb?

I see an irony in your post - a decision to come here based on pure logic or emotion? ;) A high IQ is a great thing - but it's not the ONLY thing. Does intellect completely trump kindness, or a sense of duty? If so, how would society as a whole function? Wouldn't a completely logical society...

Spotting the Aspie in Family Photo's: Severe "aspie stare" as a kid?

Most of the pictures of me as a young 'un, I have a fairly blank face with a small 'fake' smile (it doesn't reach the rest of my face, if you see what I mean?). I'll see if I have one on the computer... (This also reminds me - I did some photographic modelling aged 14 and the guy who arranged...

Hi I think I'm an Aspie

Hi Abe. I'm also new, also in the UK, also wondering about seeking diagnosis (although haven't really verbalised that until RIGHT NOW!) :) I'm no expert (my five year old was recently diagnosed and it's sparked of the realisation that I in fact, also have many traits if indeed I'm not firmly...

I really dislike going strange places and having to communicate

Yes, yes, yes! It's not just going to places (where, usually, it is possible to arm myself with enough facts/information to make it almost familiar and so not as angst ridden - thank you websites, google street view, and review sites...) but I think people invading my space is the worst -...
