One of the biggest forces behind the drive for universal spaying and neutering of dogs is PeTA. People for the Euthanasia of Trusting Animals. Okay, I know that's not what they say their name stands for. But that's what they're about. PeTA believes that domesticated animal species should go extinct. Basically, they think extinction is less cruel than life with human beings. And a universal spaying/neutering of dogs is one of the ways they hope that goal will be achieved..
