Support services in the UK for savants??

MROSS

Well-Known Member
After viewing many stories on savants e.g., the U.S. news-magazine show 60 MINUTES, quite a few stories came out of the UK. Hence, can UK agencies experienced with assisting savants offer examples of delivering support services?

What are specific agencies in the UK?

Thank-you

I don't know any but I don't have any savant abilities so I've never looked for them, and any that I look for you could easily Google search yourself. However I would query the National Autistic Sociality or a county charity where you live, for example here in Dorset we have Autism Wessex as opposed to a local coverage of NAS. If there is anything for you then they'll most likely know, they might be stuff not necessarily built for people like you but they may have people who can accommodate for your gifts.

There is not a service for savants- there is just education from 4-25 ,charities provide day activities then family struggle to do the rest .
After 25 some counties have more support than others but very little .
When i was younger there was little or nothing for hfa /Aspergers
you had to be low functioning to get more support
im in the n.e England diagnostic services are good to average after that very little

id also like to add that the national autistic society has a hotline you can phone or email, and theyre pretty good at forwarding you onto other services if they dont have any within theirs.
one thing i can think of,the NAS runs a befriending scheme, where they match a volunteer to the service user,so if a savant autistic was applying for the scheme, potentially they could find someone on a similar wave length to meet up with you.
