Overcoming the AS =]

I am so proud of myself right now...

Yes, that sounds so self centered, but this is a good thing for me. As many know...I have a very low self confidence.

Anyway. I now hardly ever think about having Asperger Syndrome and am discovering brilliant ways of coping with AS and all the issues associated with it - whilst also learning to love the good side of having an autistic spectrum disorder.

Why the sudden onset of actually being positive ?!

I got onto the course I wanted to do at College. I only got a B in Science and a B in English as I had around 17.5% attendance over the last two years due to a long term illness. Yeah I was quite disappointed with that, but it was enough (along with the reference from my IT teacher) to get me onto the BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners (Level 3) at a college close to me. As computing is one of my obsessions...I do really well in the one particular subject - this week being put into a list of three students to "Be happy about". I've completed all of the currently set Assignments (due date: 9th November) and am ahead: which is why I got put onto the list (and I get a certificate, yey, LOL).

My form tutor wants me to stay on to do the Higher National Diploma after this two year course (the full time HND is also 2 years and is in partnership with Northampton University). I CANNOT WAIT TO GO UNIVERSITY! :D

Additionally

I now have a job. Admittedly it's at McDonalds, but it's good enough for me. I enjoy it and although am not the fastest of people when preparing food....it pays for my computing obsession and will go towards paying for University. SQUEEEE.

But yeah. Sorry if this post sounds like I am over confident or something. I'm just glad things are finally going right. It goes to show that even Aspies have a chance of making it through life...even after a tremendous **** up. (In the words of Dell Boy) "Cushty Cushty."

That's great news! Good to see that things have took a positive turn for you. The course that you're currently doing is the same course as myself, only I have to re-do it all next February as I dropped out of college for different reasons. Not to worry though as I'm going to work at it from home. Anyway, hope you stick at it and get something good out of it.

Congratulations!!! and Thank You....your positivity and obvious joy, has really improved my day.

I know you will do well, as attitude is everything. Please, keep us all informed about school and how you cope with work. I did not like fast-food industry myself (first job was 3 days working at Long John Silver's), but I did enjoy my second job at a car-wash and made a lot of friends there.

Good luck!
