New and anxious

Hello everyone.
I am Paige. I am 19 and was diagnosed with autism this year. I feel every isolated and alone as I know no one on the spectrum and would like to make friends. If anyone would like to talk to me feel free. [emoji4]

Hello; I'm self-diagnosed h/f autistic as the doctor doesn't believe I have the condition as I don't fit the stereotype. For me, it's more of an inconvenience than anything, and I have managed to do something about my worst behavioural traits. I'm 57 next month and have taken early retirement, so a formal diagnosis would be more for confirmation than anything.
At least your knowing now will enable you to make informed life choices, so will hopefully be spared a lot of struggling in situations you're not cut out to be in and wondering why you're not coping as you think you should be.

I'm sorry to hear that you can't get an official diagnosis but thank you for telling me your story. I agree now that I have the diagnosis I can't avoid situations that caused me a lot of problems. Also it helps people understand rather than judge

Hi I only discovered I was on the spectrum two years ago when I was 31 and I understand the feeling of isolation but you will find others here who share similar experiences to you:)

Hi KillingBMan Welcome to Central; I think that joining here & checking in helped quite a lot with my feelings of isolation & it was quite something to discover other ASD-affected people, especially when I was only just learning to understand & accommodate my own diagnosis, which took many years. Very best of luck.

Thank you. I hope that I can get to grips with everything and everyone

I hope so too; It took me 18 years, post diagnosis to understand more & actively start accommodating what it meant, by which I mean, being kinder to ourselves, through understanding strengths & lesser strengths...that's a definitive positive from diagnosis, self-done or otherwise.

I haven't gotten to that stage yet but I definitely have amazing support for my mum and my partner to help me get there
