So I decided to stop fighting it and start posting here. I suppose I could walk to the corner store to buy some NyQuil, which usually knocks me out, but that would require getting out of my pajamas and braving the elements outside.

At least I don’t have to go to the office in eight hours from now which is unusual.

I went to bed early and then just woke up after a few hours, so now I'm up at 4 AM when originally I had things to do tomorrow. And my body thinks I've already slept!

I wish there were some easy way out of scenarios like this. Maybe like those cool sleeping pods from the Fifth Element?

I wish we could hibernate like bears throughout the cold and unpleasant winter months, then we have the excuse to eat as much as we want during summer.
 
I have bouts of insomnia because of my sensitivity to caffeine. Yup, bed-time was 3:00 am as usual.
 
I have trouble sleeping sometimes. I never have trouble going to sleep, but sometimes I wake up just a few hours later. When this happens I’m wide awake, there’s no point in trying to go back to sleep. This sometimes caused trouble when I used to work, I’d spend the day very tired.

When I was living in Darwin a simple and easy answer was to grab a couple of beers and a handline and go fishing on the Berrimah boat ramp. I did this one night and fished for a few hours, but on the way home I got stopped by police.

2 police came up to my car and started shining torches through my windows and having a good look, I asked them what was going on. The female officer told me that there had been an escape from Berrimah jail and they were checking all vehicles. I said ”Oh, I thought it was a breath test.” and she said “Nah, lucky aren’t you.” :)
 
Yeah. Daylight savings time continues to wreak havoc with my sleeping patterns. :mad:
 
There's a normal type of sleeping pattern where you wake for a while then sleep again, I tend to have that though I also get times where it happens less for a while. I just read or visit here when I wake up, I usually can't just lie awake. I quite like it overall, and if I am tired the next day I will usually sleep longer.

Sleeps quite a strange idea in a way. Think about the Borg for example. Most people take sleep for granted as a concept, but just because the Borg stood up and recharged like batteries, they seemed weird. But how weird is lying down with bedcovers and falling into a trance every night, as we expect to do. Super weird in a way...
 
A commendable solution! Personally, I've taken to calling a fellow night owl and not worrying so much about trying to get "a good eight hours" in.

I have resorted to medication from my psychiatrist, at least temporarily.

Sleep is such a foundation for every day, and my mind was getting close to delusional without it. It’s a little scary what sleep deprivation can do to your mind and then what happens once sleep is restored. I am dreaming again for the first time in years.

I am seeking a reset with prescribed meds, and then will be searching for my own natural circadian rhythm, unmedicated.

Maybe I will just try standing up.

Maybe I forgot to plug myself into the wall overnight.

Maybe I run on solar power and it is not consistently sunny where I live.

I don’t think medication assisted sleeping is the way to go in the long term. I will find what my rhythm is, but for the time being, I’ll take the dreams.

That's awesome that you've started dreaming again. I'll bet you feel better all the way around.
