I hate public transportation.

Today, my bus picking me up outside of my office was more than 15 minutes late. I made it to my connecting bus stop just in time to see the bus I was supposed to catch drive right off into the distance. Add in the fact that there are heroin junkies around this bus stop who are too stupid to realize that when somebody is wearing headphones, that means that person does not want to be disturbed. And I had to wait an hour at this stop because the first driver was extremely late, and I bet that first driver does not even care about how late his bus was running at all.

Yep, this is the reality of public transportation where I live. It is extremely unreliable.

Sounds exactly like where I live. I’m sorry you have to deal with this too.
I completely avoid public transportation because not only is it unreliable, but I’ve been harassed and just creeped out more times than I can count.

In the Bay Area public transportation was quite good most of the time. Too expensive to park a car in SF let alone pay for so much gas.

But public transportation in Northern Nevada, not so much.

Either way, I'm grateful to have my own transportation. Always having to depend on public transportation that isn't always reliable can't be comforting.

Drivers don't necessarily have control over how late the bus is. They get the bus when it is available. If there are delays for any reason, they are delayed and there is nothing they can do. Do you imagine the driver just parked somewhere and took a nap?

If there's nothing you can do about something there is no reason to get emotionally involved. What should they do? Drive faster than traffic? Skip stops? Nothing enrages me like a bus not stopping but if the bus is full and nobody is getting off, there's no reason to stop. If the next bus waits, then everyone who is counting on that bus will be late. It is just one of those things that one should let slide.

For distances less than a couple of miles, I walk. Smile and wave at the bus if it goes by. It usually doesn't.

Public transport sucks because there is no accountability to the potential customers. That's a management and public policy issue and not something the drivers have any control over. They have a hard job.

I do know I would have caught my bus transfer if this driver did not waste five minutes at one stop listening to a con artist’s sob story about why she should ride the bus without paying a fare. I would have just kicked that woman off the bus instead of eventually letting her on.

Not to mention that management probably couldnt give less of a fart about the employees. The drivers are likely overworked and underpaid, and as per standard protocol most corporations arent bright enough to grasp the fact that this inevitably leads to inefficiency and mistakes.

Doesnt help that they likely get verbally abused by customers who are in bad moods (or who are just jerks). And the rules for dealing with customers are likely all sorts of stupid.
