Hospitals

I'm in the hospital right now with a nasty infection. It's obnoxious and the beeps make me want to scratch something. The nurses are kind and nice, but they keep saying I'm anxious, even though thats not what I'm experiencing danlos, something few people know about. I have a tremor from eds and the doctor kept saying I must have anxiety or am actively in withdrawals. He didn't even mention ehlers danlos. I don't drive. I don't drink much. Anyone with bad experience at hospital?

I told the resident during my stroke recovery at the hospital that I had previously contracted transverse myelitis 50 year previous he basically ignored this information prescribed gabapin my leg was jumpy at night. Do to his error I basically lost two years of recovery. A resident is not an experienced doctor.

Sound asleep, when suddenly light comes on followed seconds later by curtain being whisked open. Of course I have been startled into full wakefulness and am not in a good mood. Then the nurse/orderly/what-ever proceeds to ask if I need a sleeping pill. I used to think this was a dumb joke, but it has happened to me several times in hospitals

If the hospital staff kept telling me I have anxiety, I'd say "Of course I have anxiety, I'm in a hospital." DUH!
Even worse, our local hospital is one of the worst, if not the worst in the whole country. They have ignored people in the emergency room until they died, even though they were clearly in severe pain. I guess covid took whatever compassion they might have had out of them.

Medical professionals take a liking to gaslighting and treating patients like idiots.

Not at hospital, but I got treated like an imbecile by a medical professional a number of times, and I wish I responded more sharply, because this is ridiculous unacceptable behaviour.

Happened to me when fell 30 feet from barn 40 years ago woke me up to ask I wanted sleeping pill. I guess nothing has changed. Worse part nurse was former school mate.

Let's hear an Amen to that one, brother.

The craziest thing I've ever experienced was a tech that constantly treated me the worst she possibly could and made fun of me. When I finally asked why? What did I do to her? It was because she found out I liked Barry Manilow! This was in the '80's.

I'm glad I have knowledge when it comes to medicine and medical terms.
Knowledge is power with doctors when they see you can speak "their language."
I feel sorry for people who have little to no medical experience and think of their doctors as God. That's what they want you to think.

Yeah, I've been turned away by the ER several times with life-threatening emergencies. I came really close to dying twice when I needed emergency surgeries (and I had already tried hospitals multiple times), and even the doctors in town thought I was fine, which says a lot about how things operate here.

I can't say my experiences with medical professionals have been all that great, and they've still been unable to treat my ongoing problems, so I just quit even going to the doctor over symptoms that most people wouldn't let slide. I guess it depends on where you live? Maybe some places are better than others.
