Hi, my name is Don

Hello there,

My name is Don. I am 52 years old. I am an American and a New Yorker. I really don't know how I'm positioned on the autistic spectrum continuum. I believe I am mostly Aspie--but I didn't speak until I was 5 1/2 years old. Aspies, diagnostically, are supposed to not have had delays in language development. I went to both special and "regular" schools. I completed high school at 18, then finally completed college (University) at the age of 45. I didn't get my drivers' license until I was 37.

I wish I had savant abilities--but I don't. I have been employed for over 30 years at the same place. I do all right--but I wish I had more friends who understand me. I'd rather watch birds than repair a doorknob.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Hi Don! Welcome to Aspies Central. Have you been professionally diagnosed yet? Not trying to pry, but I'm asking because a professional might be able to pinpoint exactly what you might have. Something else I would like to mention is that not every case of AS is going to be "by the book" (in other words, exactly the same as what's described in the DSM-IV - the DSM-V eliminated AS as a separate diagnosis altogether). Some cases might be more severe, some might be relatively mild. As for where you are on the spectrum, even the "spectrum" itself is something that is always being worked on.
