Haldol and Cogentin (What is your Medication)?

I havent taken either one of those. Any complaints about them?
I used to take risperdal for anxiety but I havent been on any medication for the last two years. I like to deal with things mostly naturally. Most the times its a bit more of a challange but I think its worth it. Plus the negative side effect of risperdal is it made me sooooo sleepy all the time. Ugh, if I took it before bed then the next morning felt like I was hungover.

I'm on Effexor ER 150mg for anxiety and depression, Lithium 450mg twice daily for Bipolar depression, Abilify 30mg for Bipolar mania.

Back in the day, before the term "Asperger's syndrome" became part of our language, my psychiatrist at that time
put me on a cocktail of Stelazine (an anti-psychotic medication)and Elavil (a tri-cyclic antidepressant from the days
before Prozac). Near the end of that regime, the doctor added Cogentin to my medicine because I was showing signs of
tardive dyskinesia, the convolutions [sic] that kg4fxg was talking about.

what effect did those medications have? and does Fluxotine help you in any way? Now I'm Topomax, wanted to get off it but that didn't work out very well, so I'm still taking it. Neurologist suggested Lexapo, I was like - "what's the point?" but tried it anyway (it was free)
well, it was a disaster, no effect but side effects when I feel out of sync, I take herbal supplements sometimes, just to take an edge off stress, they seem to help (I think I posted them on "the last thing you tried" thread). Plus I noticed that taking vitamins can improve general state of mind as well.

I take very little medication today. The low dose of Fluxotine helps with anxiety. Temple Grandin takes the same thing. I also take Melatonin to help me sleep at night but I consider that more like a vitamin.
All those other medications, well, they most likely helped by making me very tired. I was not hyper anymore and dealt better with anxiety. Mind you that I took most on the list back in school. School was very stressful, the environment, lunchroom, school bus was more than I could handle.
My current job of four years is fine. I have learned that I don't like working for anyone who is extremely emotional, prone to fits of rage and screaming and swearing. I work hard and I don't mind a fast paced environment. But I have had bosses in the past whose personal lives were a complete reck.
The Fluxotine is suppose to help with depression. But I am not sure how to know if I have it? My mood and my outlook are generally very level. I would say middle of the road. I can get emotional in terms of feeling great about this or that or have an opinion on some political topic. But for the most part my life is fairly routine and I am very happy with it.
Seven years ago I had a terrible job and I was on many medications. But even then the best solution was for me to find another place to work, no matter how right I was the environment was not going to change. So with a job change things got much better and no need for medication.

I might also add that I only took Haldol and Cogentin back in the 70's.
Back then there was this doctor who diagnosed me as having Schizophrenia. I looked her up and she specializes in it today. I guess she sees Schizophrenia in everyone? To be fair there was no Aspergers diagnosis back then.
I took the on-line test for Schizophrenia & Bi-Polar and failed there terribly. I scored rather high on the Aspergers & OCD. See my scores in my signature. Maybe I should look for a test to see if I am eccentric?
With all the medications, past, doctors, diagnosis, I don't have much faith in them. I study on my own to gain new insight into myself. At my age I have learned so much, I have been able to modify so many behaviors that most will see me as completely an NT.
Now you might ask - why do you seem so self-confident? Have you ever heard of the book "Look Me In The Eye" by John Elder Robison?
In many ways I am very much like him. I taught myself electronics, I have an Oscilloscope and I understand how to build radios to communicate. Just like him and Amps, I understand electronics, I also chat around the world via Morse code at 25 words per minute. I am also a practicing CPA. I believe there is nothing I can't learn or succeed at in life. If I am interested in a topic and it becomes my obsession I will do very well. If that obsession is Aspergers I can become the walking encyclopedia.
