Enfield artist with Asperger’s syndrome, Patrick Samuel

An Enfield artist with Asperger’s syndrome is currently holding his third exhibition at Palmers Green Community Art Gallery.

Patrick Samuel picked up painting and drawing when he started his daily art therapy in December 2016. He has embraced his neurodiversity as a gift rather than seeing it as a disability; he’s found his voice and his calling.

Patrick has produced an extensive portfolio in a wide range of genres and media. Being on the autistic spectrum, he is stimulated by bold, contrasting colours, intricate details, multiple textures, and varying shades of light and dark. Patrick is working primarily with pastels, graphite pencils and acrylics, but he also enjoys experimenting with water colours, glass and oil paints.

He says: “Colour and sound, as well as their interference, have always affected my life more than anything else. As a person on the autistic spectrum and living with synesthesia, I experience visual and sonic auras in everything I do, see and hear. It’s all around me; colour is sound and sound is colour.”

All originals are for sale at the exhibition and 10 per cent of proceeds goes towards the National Autistic Society.
