Comedy

Comedy is my special interest (one of them), and at times it surprises me that people say "you are funny". I don't see myself as funny, but today my boss said, "you're funny." as a compliment. Even when I was a kid I was too shy to talk to people, but I'd come up with the one-liners, and it would surprise me when people actually laughed at them, and there have been a few times when I had people rolling. I make up a lot of jokes and try to figure out ways to slide them in there without people knowing., think a lot about ironies or surprising situations, or ways to make fun of myself. Sometimes I'll ask people if my face looks square, acting like I really want to know: "Does my face look square?" It's hilarious because people will take it seriously and start trying to convince me my face looks fine. But it's all about ironies and paradoxes.

What is funny to you and what makes you laugh and what do think makes something funny?

I use a lot of puns and word play. l also take advantage of my ability to make cartoonish faces to insert humor into the telling of a story or do a bit of an exaggerated parody of something.

I prefer dry humor. I love leading someone through a meticulous, logical scenario and then throw in an absurd twist while staying totally serious throughout.

I also prefer dry wit. I had grown out of slapstick comedy by the age of 8 and as an adult I don't even find it mildly amusing, in fact I often get angry at the cruelty other people display in laughing at such humour.

I also often used jokes and quick wit to make people laugh, that was always one of my main social skills. Sometimes my mouth is far quicker than my brain and I embarrass myself but most times I make people laugh so in general I come out in front.

My favourite comedian of the last 20 years is Tim Minchin. Before him my favourite was a duo - Roy Slaven and HG Nelson. I can't post any links here because their language and some of the topics they touch on are considered culturally inappropriate in some countries.

I enjoy this way also. I call them "zingers."

A brief example:
I'm not one who loves modern tech such as smart phones being used for everything and such.

I started to pay the cashier at Walgreens one day with my debit card. The box you do so with had several different choices on how to use it.
I'm looking at the card to decide what to do.
The cashier guy says, "Just tap it." So, I tapped it. The debit card with my finger.
I said that didn't seem to do anything!
He said he would do it for me.
I remained perfectly serious about it.
:p
Wry humor is another word for it.
Twisted perspective: The humor comes from looking at a situation in a way that's slightly off-kilter or unexpected. It's not a straightforward joke; it often requires a moment of thought to grasp the irony or the underlying emotion.

As far as comedy I enjoy watching, it would be something like Grumpy Old Men or Last Vegas.

Cartoon humor I liked was The Far Side or Twisted Whiskers.

I've never liked slapstick comedy, either. It's boring.

On "book day" in elementary school, I always went for joke books.
My epithet on another site is "Repartee Animal...!" ;)

I can spot irony and contradictions pretty quick, so I'm just as quick to satire or be cynical about those. I grew up on Marx Bros. Monty Python, Steven Wright, BET Comic View, Def Comedy Jam, Rodney Dangerfield Comedian Showcases on HBO, etc. There are several good comedians, still. I even like watching Roast Me / All Def episodes on Youtube. Boo Kapone is hilarious.

In my anonymous writing work over ten years ago, I was adding memes / jokes to LOLcats, Chuck Norris Facts and Yo Mama jokes sites.

I regret nothing!

In addition to these, I can do and say some pretty random stuff that people find funny too. For example, a short while ago Mama and I were out in the front yard with the huskies. I saw the empty frame from a suet block that had been out for birds to eat pictured below.

I suddenly made a brief sweeping gesture towards it with my hand and blurted out something along the line of "Is it just me, or does that look like it would make an AWESOME addition to a squirrely whirly style swing set!? Mama laughed.

I have a very dark and dry sense of humor. I also laugh at absurdist humor.

The last thing that made me laugh out loud was this safety training video made by this guy in Australia. I threatened my work that I was going to make our training videos like this.
