Autistic Former Foster Youth Needed for Qualitative Study

megacomic

Just that awkward guy.

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

Seeking college students ages 18-25 who identify as being on the autism spectrum and are former foster youth. As a former foster student on the autism spectrum, I am researching the resilience and unique experiences students in this situation face in the school system.

The purpose of this study is to explore the educational experiences of foster youth on the autism spectrum through multiple semi structured interviews and possibly understand if there are social/educational barriers unique to this particular group. The overall benefit would be insight into the factors that helped autistic foster youth succeed in school as a means to develop tools for future students.

ABOUT THE RESEARCHER

My name is Megacomic and I am a doctoral candidate in the UC Berkeley School of Education about to begin my dissertation research centered around students with autism in foster care. As a former foster youth on the autism spectrum I understand some of the unique experiences positive and negative but I would like to do further research in order to develop tools to help other students in this predicament.

THE PROCESS ITSELF

  1. One interview that will be approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on the flow of conversation and discretion of the participants.
  2. Follow up interview two to four weeks after initial interview approximately the same length as the first.
  3. Ok, you’re done.

DM me if you're interested and I'll provide further details.
