Hello all, just wondering about all yer taste in MUZAK! Im also curious to see if tastes within this cohort of the population is different from nt's. Im mostly into progressive rock and related genres, krautrock, psychedelic, art rock, post punk, new wave, some electronic, shoegaze, jazz, post rock and alternative, not sure if Im leaving anything out. Some of my favourite bands/artists are David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and Tangerine Dream, those are the standout ones anyways. Favourite bands or genres?

I like music from many different genres, but I don't like everything in any one genre.
  • 1970s-1990s Praise & Worship
  • 20th century Pop (before rap & hip-hop)
  • Acappella
  • Barbershop/Beauty Shop? [ex. The Chordettes]
  • Beach rock
  • Boogie-woogie
  • Choral
  • Classical
  • Country
  • Doo-Wop
  • Duets
  • Jazz
  • Ragtime
  • Rap: some Christian rap. Most secular rap strikes me as angry, lewd or both.
  • Rock-a-billy
  • Show tunes
  • Techno/electronica/disco (particularly instrumentals)
There may be others, but I can't think of them right now. I would include contemporary Christian music & TV/movie themes, but they occur in all of the genres given above.

For me, my tastes in music comes from not only the time line of different ages, but, also from where I am emotionally.

When I was younger, like pre- thirtyish.
I liked the typical popular, easy listening stuff on the radio.
A lot of those romantic ballads from artists like Barry Manilow, Engelbert Humperdinck, Bread, Moody Blues.

Then I decided to try dating in the 80's.
This area of my life did not go well at all and the next thing I found myself working in both a publishing company, part time nights and a pharmaceuticals wholesale industry as a pharmacist in the afternoons and a part time delivery driver for the company.
Both places constantly played rock music of that era which became my mainstay.
So to this day I still listen to 80's classic rock.
Bands like Styx, Def Leopard, Pink Floyd and singers like Bon Jovi, Billy Idol, Phil Collins. (Sirius Classic Rewind)

When I want to relax or sleep I listen to a cable station that plays odd music that is artistically created.
Nature sounds, native american sounds, it has no certain tune or words. Only occasionally someone like Enya.
Meditation music I'd call it.

I suppose it varies.

Most of what I listen to is rock/pop-punk/metal.

But I also like ska, reggae, 80s pop, some 60s/70s songs.

I tend to like rock, but right now the radio in my truck only plays country. So I've been listening to chris ledoux a lot lately.

I love prog rock too, hence my username. I like all the classic 70s bands - Jethro Tull, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, Camel, Caravan, Renaissance, King Crimson, ELP, etc. I also like a lot of the neoprog or more recent bands like Big Big Train, Marillion, Millenium, The Tangent, Porcupine Tree. I like prog folk a lot, and love to explore bands from many different countries with folk influences. However, I don't like minimalist music, I like music with a lot going on. I need to be stimulated, music is like a big stim for me. I also like folk rock (Fairport Convention, Magna Carta) and metal/prog metal, as well as classic rock (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden).

It keeps changing over the years, but I'll listen to just about anything. My taste covers pretty much any genre out there (eclectic? I think that's what it's called)...

Right now though, I listen to a lot of 70s/80s/90s classics, and I expect that to change in a couple more years.

I also love Enya, actually she was the first artist I seriously got into when I was about 20, and the Moody Blues, Days of Future Passed is probably one of my favourite records of all time. You mentioned nature and native sounds, have you ever listened to steve Roach? He does a lot of that type of stuff. I especially like his Quiet Music series from '86, you should check him out. Also you mentioned Pink Floyd, have you ever listened to any of their records? Or just singles?

You ever listen to The Congos? Heart of the Congos? Fascinating stuff, would highly recommend them if you dont know them already.

Love literally everything you mentioned in the first couple of lines, Im not really into neo or modern prog at all though, its not the same to me. There are a couple classic rock bands I love, like the Stones or Tom Petty, I do like a bit of minimalist stuff as well, like ambient music. When you say Millennium, do you mean the 1960s band or is that another one? The one I listen to is kinda obscure, they only released one lp but its a hidden gem ^_^.

Same, love lots of stuff from the 60s to the 80s, some beyond that but not very much. Im more into albums and more obscure type stuff from that period.

I mean the more recent Polish neoprog band. I'm not aware of the other Millenium from the 60s, who are they? I like a lot of obscure late 60s/early 70s stuff, too.

Not come across a type of music I don't like yet, but favourite has to be synth/electronic and modern jazz.

Love Captain Beefheart ^_^, I crack up every time I listen to him. Also love Lick my decals off baby and Doc at the radar station.

They were kinda a psychedelic or baroque pop band, they only released one lp and disbanded, its kinda obscure but its quite an interesting listen.

I lean more toward 80's rock. However, not long ago I was introduced to jazz by a coworker. I had always been led to believe that there was something sinister about jazz, so I never listened to it. It's actually quite enjoyable. When I'm working out I like heavier stuff like AC/DC, etc. I also enjoy classic country. The only genre I don't enjoy is rap.
I only got into jazz recently, Mingus Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is my favourite piece of jazz, also Miles Davis, in a Silent Way.
