Asperger's and concentration issues

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with my girlfriend, and I find it hard to concentrate and get in my zone when my girlfriend is in the apartment with me... I've tried going into my room with the door closed, noise cancelling headphones and earplugs (sometimes all of those things together), but I still have difficulty concentrating. Just the fact that someone is in the apartment with me makes me lose my focus, no matter how quiet they are.

A few times, she's gone on weeklong trips to visit her parents in another city, and when the place is empty, I notice that I'll watch different tv channels, pick up books I never would usually read, and stay up later...

Seems like I need to go at my own pace sometimes, and prefer being alone, and feel stressed if i'm not alone... of course, when I'm alone, I get lonely. It's like a catch-22.

Is this common with Asperger's?

Thanks
