ASD & Sleep Apnea... are these related?

As the title says really.

I check of on nearly all the symptoms for sleep apnea as well as having ASD.

I have read many things that say people with most forms of ASD have difficulty sleeping or a funny sleep patern, but i can find any solid medical referances to this:(

Have any of you guys researched the same thing. Or even better (well kind of not) is any one in the same boat as me.
 
I'll let you know. I have a sleep study scheduled next month...to check sleep apnea...I think mine is caused by things other than AS if I have it at all...I think most AS sleep issues involve an inability to relax and stop thinking about things (insomnia). I've not thought of or heard any correlation to apnea. I'll ask when I see the sleep specialist.

There has been nobody in the medical community who has came out and said that Sleep Apnea has any relation to AS and its probably unlikely since the majority of Sleep Apnea cases are related to obesity. However there are factors that show AS can contribute to obesity in people with AS.

The reason there isn't too much knowledge on what problems come with AS is the lack of research and funding for instance in the United States the majority of AS funding is aimed at children and most Neuropsychologists will not even work with anyone over 18 and this is a issue since they are identifying things like GI disorders in children with AS but because no research is really done in adulthood doctors are unable to confirm whether those problems continue into adulthood but I personally have been plagued with the GI issues they are now finding in children and medically there is no other cause for my GI issues so yeah.
