  • So, hippos sweat blood and use it as moisturizer. That's...a thing.

I know it's not real blood. I just thought it would be easier to explain.

Some sources claim that the practice of bloodletting developed as a result of people erroneously mistaking hipposudoric acid for actual blood, but sources do not agree on whether this is really how people came to do that or if that is merely a tale.

So that's where blood sweat and tears came from!
Did you know the hump on the grizzly bear's back is pure muscle? Just in case anyone feels like wrestling one.

I love wrestling grizzly bears. Just the ones I can pick up at queer bars.

Kinda lost interest in such a thing, ever since that Leo DiCaprio movie. Didn't help that I saw it in a shopping maul.

I think we should make a mash up of The Revenant and The Care Bears Movie.

No. Do you know what you call a boomerang that doesn't come back?

    A stick.

@Levelskid That sounds fitting. They are kinda sorta known for doing that.🤔

Something I learned as a child visiting one of our oldest zoos. -The Smithsonian.

Apex predators who are not only ferocious, but cunning as well relative to their prey. Though I suspect foxes may be at the top of such a list. Extremely cunning animals, but not particularly ferocious either.
I did not know that lions can hunt during storms. You'd think they would stay under shelter.

In tropical regions rain only happens during the hottest time of the year, and the rain isn't cold. Don't get me wrong, it will drain some of your body heat, but it's not like getting rained on in a colder climate. In fact people enjoy the rains to cool them down when they get caught in them instead of racing under cover.

As someone who LOVES to get out in inclement weather, I have no room to talk.🥴😅

A downside to being an apex predator. Not instinctively knowing when to back off.

Whether it involves the weather or other species such as a Black Mamba poisonous snake. Not a common happening in nature, but the possibility of death exists for them.
Fun fact: Sheep are actually very intelligent and can recognize facial expressions (better than me). So, when someone calls you a sheep, they're calling you smart.

I visited Buffalo jump in Alberta, Canada, the site where 6000 years ago Blackfoot hunters dressed up as coyotes and wolves and herded buffalo off a 11 metre cliff. Injured Buffalo were finished off by other warriors at bottom. Bones are buried 12 meters deep.

Fun fact: Male cassowaries are basically stay at home dads (females are typically bigger), raising the babies.

Emus too. Males build the nest and hatch the eggs and raise the young.
Fun fact: Turtles' sex is determined by the temperature of their nest (cooler/male; warmer/female).

Snapping turtle females travel from wherever they are to the place they hatched in order to lay their eggs. Turtles have made that same historic journey for millions of years.

This is why people find snappers crossing busy roads in the spring.

Are you saying male turtles are cold blooded bastards and female turtles are hotties?

Not just turtles, many reptiles are the same.
Fun fact: Koalas have fingerprints similar to humans. They're even good enough to fool some forensics.

Cat's out of the bag. I've been breeding gangs of koala pickpockets.

I'll have to switch to squirrels.
Fun fact: A group of kangaroos are called a mob (I always thought they looked good in fedoras).

If you get up close, they look like Humphrey Bogart.

    The females too.
Fun fact: Squirrels pretend to bury food in order to fool food thieves. They're much smarter than you think.

That's a good one! One of my favourites so far!
Today, when I got out of my car, my neighbor's dog jumped in and follow me when I gave her a treat (I'm thinking of how it got to the point, I have dog treats for them).
So, the octopus has nine brains? They must be the smartest of all.

If you're friends with an octopus, do you have to be friendly with all nine brains, or is a 5/4 split enough?
You never realize how big wolves are until you sit them next to a dog (namely a German Shepherd). Also, that our ancestors still teamed up with them.

There's a local who brings a wolf to the cafe, great big lovable beast!
