I've only ever tried creamer a couple of times and hated it, here we're used to having milk in our coffee, not cream. Not that creamer tastes anything like cream anyway. Carnation milk is "condensed" or "evaporated" milk, with sugar added.

When I was a kid one of my aunts used to make wonderful caramel tarts from Carnation milk, simply put the can in boiling water for a couple of hours and the milk turns into rich caramel. Make sure you put a hole in the can to stop it from exploding though.

@Outdated My Mama and I use actual milk in our coffee too. My Dad wants his without it and for some reason insists on calling the milk from our gallon milk jug "creamer" when we put it in our coffee.😂

Coffee 'creamer' isn't exactly healthy for us anyway. As sweet as it maybe. It's just not worth it.

@Outdated I think your aunt was making was either dulce de leche or cajeta, cajeta is quite popular where I live and there's a lot of treats that use it

I don't drink milk @FayetheAspie, and can't really afford my soy milk, I use what I can find and if there's nothing I drink my coffee with sugar only

I did hear about creamer being not too healthy @Xinyta, and I don't get why people like it if it makes you thirsty

I think there is definitely something in the creamer that causes a loss of water in the body. I do recall having diarrhea quite often after having coffee with creamer in it. Plus it made me quite sick to my stomach.

I use powdered milk, coffee's the only thing I have milk in so if I buy fresh milk it always goes off before I can finish it. If the coffee is too hot the powdered milk will separate and curdle in the cup. Some brands are worse than others for this. The best here is a supermarket homebrand - Coles. Au$10/Kg, good value.

There's coffee mate (I don't know if that's powdered milk) but no, it's the same way, it makes me too thirsty @maleonolo

Soy milk does the same but, generally I don't mind it because you can't even tell it's curdled @Outdated

Coffee Mate is a US style creamer, I see it in shops here very occasionally, no one here likes it much. Plain old powdered milk is completely different, worth trying. Just one very heaped teaspoon to a cup.

Sorry I forgot creamer is for coffee

Are Australian groceries cheap in general? @Outdated

In general things are quite affordable here. Australia grows most of it's own food and doesn't have to rely on exports. A lot of prices are very similar to other western countries but in general I think things are just slightly cheaper here. If you're in the US that powdered milk works out to $2.90/lb for example.

A big difference between Aussie prices and US prices - we pay the advertised price only. It's illegal here to tell someone they have to pay $10 for something then turn around afterwards and tell them they'll also need to pay tax, and they'll also need to add a tip. If it's advertised as $10 here then that is all we pay by law.

Anyone that grew up in Adelaide has a more British Upper Class accent than the rest of the country. Adelaide was never a penal colony, instead it was a free settlement for rich toffs.

Do youngsters there tend to buy houses or apartments? I think Sydney and Melbourne are very crowded so most buy apartments

It's a mix here, housing's expensive everywhere at the moment, although most places aren't anywhere near as bad as Sydney. SA is one of the cheaper states to live in, low crime and low unemployment. A bit slow and boring for many young people but great place to raise a family. Adelaide population 1.3 million
