From what I see, it's profoundly their job to be friendly to all customers. More so perhaps than their competition. You might ponder this before proceeding any further with them:

One calls me “friend” and will look happy to see me. I think I’ve told her about Petey and that I work at the public library but she doesn’t ask me questions related to those topics.

If you ask, it should be simply hey l think you're great, is it okay to give you my number, or give a tip with your number on your library business card. That way you aren't asking.
