Could be worth a try. It is clear that you are suffering and it is extremely hard to think straight when you are so sleep deprived.

You can also do a few things to prepare yourself. Like take a shower, put on your favorite clothes, charge up your phone and maybe bring a book that you like. Getting to the ER before you start feeling psychotic could be really helpful. Sleep deprivation can lead to some level of psychosis.

Before you do that, have you considered starting a 20-minute a day exercise routine? Maybe a bit of physical exertion during the day and getting some endorphins flowing, instead of junk food, movies and video games might make you ready to sleep. Seems like it would at least be worth a try, huh? I don't mean to sound harsh, so don't take it the wrong way.

^ he’s been trying really hard at all these things. Not saying your advice isn’t useful, but he’s been doing everything he can in this regard.

Metalhead, you’ve been posting about suicide for over 24 hours now, it is time to get some help. Do whatever it takes. The help cannot come from your family. You made a wise choice in calling the hotline. You know we are here for you, but we can only do so much…

…Just remember people on the forum, like myself, care about you and your well-being. We have seen you well and we know that you are not right now. Get the help, don’t worry what other people will think of you for it.

Yea, I agree that going to the ER is a wise decision for this case. Although you seem smart with regards to what your limitations are and from many of your difficulties from your job and family, with no sleep that can cause mindsets to derail and wrong decisions made.

I am certain the only thing the ER will do is send me home and tell me to wait for my doctor appointment on the 27th. And this appointment is just for a referral to a throat doctor that will most likely be a couple of more months out.

There is zero way to expediate any of this. The doctors are all booked for months in advance.

I just am a priority to absolutely nobody.

That's terrible, wishing you the best. If you are already worn out and you wear yourself out a little more with a long walk or something you should fall asleep, maybe?

The problem is every time I start to fall asleep, my tonsils suffocate me and wake me up. Exercise and medication will do nothing for that. I have a doctor appointment on the 27th, but that is just to get a referral to a throat specialist, which means I will have to wait another few months to get it seriously looked at. I am looking at a year without much sleep at this rate.

Oh I see, nevermind what I wrote then. So sleeping in a chair half sitting upright doesn't help either I'm guessing. Sounds awful to deal with.

Why are you certain that would be what happens at the ER? If you discuss your suicidal thoughts there, they should take different action then if you go in just saying you can’t sleep.

I have been sent home from the ER before when I went there for suicidal ideation in the past because there was no room in any of the psych wards:

That is such BS and makes me so mad. I’m not saying I don’t believe you, I know that can happen and that is so horrible for people who need help like yourself. I’m sorry you are in this really difficult position.

Didn’t you recently say you could stay with some friends starting immediately? Would this be a good option to get yourself out of your familiar surroundings and be around others?

I just don’t want you to die. That is the one problem we won’t be able to help you solve.

A friend of mine went through the same thing, it's miserable what some chronic pain and lack of sleep can do to the living experience.
Awful luck with the appointments too. :( This may be a long tunnel, but it's still a tunnel.
