I learned about that in school, Loki is bound to the earth as punishment for being a rascal and a snake is hanging over his head. And poor Sigyn has to sit there and hold a bowl over Loki to catch venom dripping from the snake. When she empties the bowl venom hits Loki, he writhes in pain causing the earth to shake. And that's where earthquakes come from. Very scientific :)

I knew that! Sigyn is one of my fav. goddesses, but strangely most fictional works portray Loki as an abusive husband to her. Which i find very strange and annoying.

The thing about Loki is that he is the God of mischief. Everyone always forgets that because he is a smooth talker and very clever. So the other Gods sometimes trust Loki and then they are reminded that he is the God of mischief. Loki can't help it, it's who he is, it's basically his job to be mischievous and cunning. :) I always liked him when I was a kid, he was funny and always up to something, tricking someone.

I like trickster type characters, as well as morally dubious ones. But idk, just for once i would like to see a morally dubious character in a loving relationship also. Initially, i was hesitant to buy this book but i like Joanne Harris so i thought i might as well give it a go. Sadly i didn't like it.

I think I understand what you mean. But Loki is Loki, the God of mischief will always be a little bad. What book are you reading by the way? It's surprising that someone is reading about Loki and Sigyn, Norse mythology isn't something most people usually read.
