  • I think I may have ruined a great potential relationship by not clarifying a text message. I feel blindsided and heartbroken to say the least. I’m trying to stay positive but I’m struggling.

Try some deep breathing. Think of things that center you and make you feel good about yourself. And back away for awhile from this guy. I think we tend to over-do relationships and if that person is in friend status, then we need to accept that.

I think you should be open with him about your anxieties. Don't go "never leave me!" but do say that you can be very deeply affected by how other people respond. I really think honesty and being completely open is the best way to go, especially if you are both neurodiverse. It is difficult to make yourself vulnerable, but I really think it will be a massive relief whatever the outcome.

I remember after my relationship ended (I also have similar anxiety as what you and @ragamuffin describe), we had a good long talk where we went over it and discussed it honestly as friends. It really helped me a lot in getting over it (though it still took a long while) and deepened our friendship.
