Your post makes me think of Rodney Dangerfield. "I don't get no respect, no respect at all". He was funny.

It's ok at least i respect myself.. Somewhat haha

Here's a good song on the topic - although I think it's your workmates that could especially benefit from its message...

Even our clients treat me like a child which i don't think is good for the image of the workplace. But i can't be bothered to care about it.

April, I had a voice injury a decade ago which made me unable to talk properly for a year. I couldn't believe how people who didn't know what had happened treated me then - like I was an idiot, slowing down for me, simplifying their vocabulary. So frustrating.
Callistemon

I couldn't do much to speak out then because it was my voice that wasn't working right. But you don't have a voice problem, right?
AprilR
AprilR
No i don't. Sometimes i can't find the right words to speak that's all. I am sorry this happened to you. At this point i Just think normal people are "wired this way" They can't help but act cruel sometimes. It helps dealing with them when i think of it like this.

I think that many people just don't think very hard about stuff. They're sort of stimulus-response machines. ;)

Many probably have no idea how their behaviour can impact others. NT learning is very monkey-see, monkey-do, don't-question. That's why it's so important to teach critical thinking in schools.

Spot on!

I'm sorry this is happening to you, and because of my first-hand experience of that when I had a voice injury, I can really relate to how it feels to be treated like you're two cents short of the dollar...
Callistemon
Callistemon
Have you got any IRL people who treat you decently?
AprilR

My parents and family treat me fine ig, even with people at work its not bad. At least they don't bully me.

Occasional, here in Uk, I hear a guy say "alright PET" to a woman. I find it amusing.

I'm not the type of person who says these things. But Calistemon is right...These things are autonomic responses.

I have full mental control of my linguistic output. (That sounds robotic..but far from it. All my words are spontaneous generated. I barely if at all, rely on autonomic response phrases. Idioms. Cliches. etc.)

It's irritating to hear it, especially when it's condescending tone. Hey you should turn this into a post. 5 million responses here. Lol

Is it annoying to be called dear no matter who does it, or is it just at work? I call a close American friend of mine dear all the time, but it's because she is very dear to me. Now I wonder... am I being annoying...? oh no!
AprilR
AprilR
Not at all, just at work. It doesn't sound professional to be called dear by a client. It doesn't help that i look a lot younger than my age.
Forest Cat

I know what you mean with looking younger. I was asked to show ID to get into bars when I was 30. The age limit to get into a bar is 18... awkward.
AprilR

Ha ha my colleague said i look 25 at most recently. I guess its a good thing for when you get older.

People pay a lot of money to look young, it's not the worst thing in the world. :)
