So you realize that even with ankles bound it would be possible to push off from the bottom of a swimming pool.

But maybe I misunderstood your statement "I feel like my feet are bound." Which could refer to the historical technique of foot binding in the Orient. That certainly crippled those who had it done. In that case, I'd liken foot binding to telling oneself crippling stories.
