To be fair on superhero comics, I used to laugh them off until I read certain titles and they were more complex than I thought they were on the surface. The 90’s X-Men comics also had a manga influence in the art and they also influenced some manga themselves.

Rob Liefeld fortunately barely touched the X-books. Jim Lee and Joe Madureira’s art is much better remembered.
As for the 90s being worse, that really depends on who you talk to. My friends actually like that era and I have seen others reevaluating the 90s as better than the majority of what is being cranked out these days.

Another reason why I go to my local comic book/toy store is because it’s one of the few places I can be myself. I am not pressured to be anti-intellectual or pseudo-religious. Whoever tells you comic book readers aren’t smart don’t know what they are talking about. At least I don’t have a criminal record or are paying alimony or child support like those who mock me for collecting do.
