My 5-Year-Old Son with Autism Speaks in Multiple Languages but Struggles with Conversation

Thank you @Aspychata. That's what we are trying. We want him to be a kid and have fun with what he likes. Still want him to be independent so trying to achieve that through therapy. Rest assured he is being loved.

My 5-Year-Old Son with Autism Speaks in Multiple Languages but Struggles with Conversation

There is a shadow teacher who is working on improving his academics. For e.g. he doesn't write or should I say, have no interest in writing. So she is working on that. Apart from that, we got sessions of speech, occupational therapy and ABA therapy for him.

My 5-Year-Old Son with Autism Speaks in Multiple Languages but Struggles with Conversation

Thank you everyone for your response. I am from India so we have to speak Hindi. But during screen time my son is mostly interested in videos of animals and rhymes. Even if it's in another language. That's where he picked up those languages. I tried to engage him in interactive education mobile...

My 5-Year-Old Son with Autism Speaks in Multiple Languages but Struggles with Conversation

We give him some screen time (45 min through out the day). He will only watch video with animals names in English, Hindi, Russian and Spanish. That's what he later repeats when he is playing with his animal toys. Our therapist told us he is obsessed with animal toys and it's better to keep him...

My 5-Year-Old Son with Autism Speaks in Multiple Languages but Struggles with Conversation

Hi everyone, I'm reaching out as a father hoping to understand and support my 5-year-old son better. He’s on the autism spectrum and has an incredible memory—he can name animals in four different languages, which amazes us every day. However, he doesn’t engage in back-and-forth conversation...

    Object shaking

Hi everyone, I have a 4.5 year old who has development and speech delays. There is a behavior he does where he keeps shaking things like toys, small objects Infront of his face and next to his ears. We spoke to his therapist, according to him it's a stimming behavior. But whenever he plays...

What's he is trying to do ?

Thank you so much for your post. We are never embarrassed. But when we in public or any social gathering people ask questions like "why is he picking those plastic spoons and playing with them". We tell everyone he is likes to play with anything he can get his hands on. One thing for sure I can...

What's he is trying to do ?

He doesn't talk or communicate. He has a good non verbal communication. Like he tells us through signs/gestures and rarely by pointing what he wants. But we understand him. Praying that soon he is able to tell us what is he doing and why. Thank you for your reply.

What's he is trying to do ?

Hi everyone, From a long time we are observing that my son is picking things/objects (different objects) and keep shaking it. It can be leaves, sticks, paper, toys or any other objects that fits in his hand. As soon as he goes out he will find an object and start shaking it. I am not able to...

    Hello everyone

Hello everyone. My son was diagnosed with mild autism when he was 2.5. He is 3 now. We started therapy as soon as after his diagnosis. Apart from that I thought this forum would be a good idea to share details on what we are trying and what else we can do.
