    Married + late ASD1 diagnosis = problems

I've been married for many years (decades). I've known I was "weird" since I was around 13 years old. At that time, autism and, especially, "Aspergers Syndrome" was not a thing. Perhaps there was an expectation of normality (NT type "normality") in the relationship from time to time. Generally...

    At the ER now.

If pain is a problem, ask a pharmacist about combining/alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen. If you combine those properly, they usually are more effective than narcotics for dental pain.

    I am a mess

Hi Dave. Welcome. As someone else wrote, there's no shortage of us here with similar stories. I'm your age, and have a similar stories of detours and re-starts.

    Hi! I’m new.

There is a good resource in the Phoenix AZ area that may be of help in identifying resources. It is the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (autismcenter.org). They were of help to me.

What sites have you been banned from?

Banned from one reddit thread at one time, for silly reasons. However, what I really wanted to point out is that the banning started for me decades before the first AOL CD was mailed out in 1990 or so. That would have been middle school, high school, etc. which worked just like the Internet does...

    BRCA Genetic Counseling

These days, personal boundaries seem so old fashioned. And then, people who set proper boundaries are considered offensive in some way. Nevertheless, as old as I am I'd consider it very inappropriate to ask someone, whom I did not know extremely well, about any such things. With people posting...

How to avoid an old "friend" (bully) from the 70's

Edward, I am sorry about your parents passing, and about your jobs. My parents are gone too. It is a long adjustment process that might not really ever end. Who knows that the man's motivation might be. In any case, I wouldn't play along anymore if you can avoid it. You don't have to answer...

Hello. I’m Jay, and I’ve been diagnosed multiple times on the Spectrum since 1989.

Age 3 in 1989? Wow, you really got in on the ground floor. I had a daughter at about that time and autism or, at the time, Aspergers was something we were just starting to hear about in the US. Welcome.

Mom of 15 year old boy with autism, anxiety, adhd, ocd who is struggling socially

Well, like Grommet, I was your son, too. I wonder if my mother sometimes had the same thoughts you have. She's one person in the world who never stopped believing in me. I miss her. I sure hope I didn't let her down too much. Without her support, I don't know what I would have done. It's been...

    The insidious "Sunk Cost" fallacy

For sure that's the example to end all examples, almost nothing else would come close.

Seeking your input. Would you work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, for 45 days straight at high pay?

I worked in the power industry for many years. This flowed from the happy accident of getting into the industry in a union job. I did these kinds of schedules on a regular basis. The hourly pay was high, and I received double time for every overtime hour, plus there were many other rules and...

From Independence To Moving Back In With Family. Should I Be Ashamed?

Your predicament has brought back uncomfortable memories of 1992 for me. I'd spent seven years finishing a bachelors degree and a couple of graduate degrees, and the employment situation was a complete disaster. In time (~on the order of six years), the employment situation smoothed out. Things...

The future of Political Discussions on AF

Normally we do not have a political environment wherein high profile individuals are using autism as a subject for political gain. No doubt that has caused problems. This site is remarkably non-political. I read political subjects elsewhere, but I'd never argue that politics is separable from...

I have been to several. It is the greatest thing. Hard to find in many places, but a great idea.

The Hidden Downsides of Doorbell Cameras

I've been building cameras from Raspberry Pi single board computers. They run Linux and are Wall Street free. Those other internet camera "privacy policies," well I simply assume they either are full of lies, or that they can be changed on a moment's notice without my knowledge.
