    Hiding it with alcohol?

Oh yes. "It's everyone else's fault" is a pretty common refrain from my Dad as well.

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Unlike cancer, alcoholism is a self diagnosed disease.

    Hiding it with alcohol?

My first AA sponsor used to say, "It's not what you drink, how often, or how much that determines whether you're an alcoholic. It's what happens to your life when you drink the amount of what you drink when you drink it." I know people who can really put it away, and may be doing some long term...

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Hey if you can manage it and it's not ruining your life, I say enjoy. If that changes, there's help available. For now you get bragging rights.

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Curious to hear how it works out. I was all or nothing. As I heard someone once say, "If I wasn't an alcoholic I would drink all the time!"

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Man I wish I had advice, but this really hit home -- " a life to pretend I’m enjoying." I am dealing with a lot of this as well. If I had known years ago what I know now, things would look a bit different. I had a therapist once tell me, "You have to find a way to mourn the life you don't have...

Ha paroled. That's a good way to describe it.

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Oof. Los Angeles traffic. Did that for 13 years. Enough to drive anyone to drink

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Yeah that's a tricky spot to be in. I probably wouldn't have quit until I moved in with my girlfriend (now wife). But at my rate I don't know that I would have lived very long either.

    Hiding it with alcohol?

Totally get all that. The question to ask yourself is whether you can enjoy and control your drinking. If both, there's no real need to stop. If you can control it, but no longer enjoy it, then you'll stop anyway. If you can't control it, but still enjoy it, you won't be motivated to stop. For...

Newly diagnosed and it explains so much!

If I could construct a world in which my work life, family life, and social life allowed me to only work with my strengths life would be so much better. Wish that were realistic.
