What's on your mind right now?

I am thinking that people are complete jerks. All my friends are apparently going through a period of everyone falling out with everyone all at once. It all strikes me as pointless, tedious, and childish. "Why do I even bother?" is my other thought.

Do you have/suspect you have alexithymia?

Huh.... I'm a (still undiagnosed) probably Aspie and I'm a very clear No. I often lack an emotional response to events, but then I actively disassociate myself from the outside world. When I do feel things I feel them extremely strongly and it's not very pleasant.

What Are Your Biggest Burdens and Gifts of Having Asperger's Syndrome?

Worst thing - feeling totally alone and unconnected to the world Best thing - my imagination makes the best company anyhow

    Humiliated for stimming

Seconded that he's just an old creep. I twirl my hair a fair bit and nobody has ever commented on it. Except my loving, supportive parents of course. I really like to stroke certain fabrics and consider myself perfectly entitled to do so when relaxing in my own home. My parents feel otherwise.

    Hypermobility and ASD

One test for hypermobility that my physio made me do, is reach down to touch your toes. If you can easily touch your toes, or even lay your hands flat beside them, while keeping your knees locked, then that's a good indicator of hypermobility. Another very common indicator is tight hamstrings...

    Hypermobility and ASD

If I were to do a study on this, the first thing I would do is reaffirm the link. If I fail in that first step - hypermobility is not correlated to autism - then there's my result right there! I am also intrigued because so many autistic people do not have hypermobility. (And there are many...

    I can tell you you're hypermobile! ;)

    Personality Type (Myers-Briggs)

Surprise! INTJ. Honestly, this could almost be a diagnostic test for high functioning autism.

    Hypermobility and ASD

Hypermobility means precisely that - joints that overextend. Some people are referred to as "double-jointed" when they can bend their thumb back to touch their wrist, and other examples. Other cases of hypermobility are much more subtle - in my case, there's nothing to see in my hands, but my...

    Hypermobility and ASD

Collagen comes in a million types and it's interesting how many of them have roles in the nervous system. Here are some of the more interesting and digestible articles I've come across- Connective Tissue Disorders & Their Correlation to Autism Autism, Joint Hypermobility-Related Disorders and...

    Hypermobility and ASD

Biology is my thing, so I am trying to dig into the nitty gritty of autism. I am hypermobile and suspected autistic, apparently conditions that go hand in hand. What is especially interesting is there's a hypothesis saying that stretchy cartilage is a contributor to autism. I had to really go...

    Behavioral Improvement in my son

You're totally right that anyone can have a specific intolerance or adverse reaction to MSG. MSG is not a common allergenic agent like peanut or shellfish, but you can be allergic to anything. It's usually best to get your doctor to confirm what is definitely the problem agent. I'm also not...

    Behavioral Improvement in my son

I'm not entirely sure what you're typing, but feel free to direct me to an actual scientific study that managed to prove MSG has any effect at all on anything. The entire population of Asia is doing fairly okay, from what I hear. "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome" is a culture-bound myth. Your...

    Behavioral Improvement in my son

Oh yes, and while MSG has been a perennial bogeyman for many years - there's no evidence it's harmful. It's widely used in Asian cookery with zero observed consequences. As I said, your body absolutely will make its own glutamate anyhow.

    Behavioral Improvement in my son

(Dons the biology cape) Firstly - autism is a genetic developmental condition, so can't be 'cured'. Its co-morbid symptoms of depression and anxiety can be addressed however. Glutamate is the amino acid we're interested in today. It's a neurotransmitter, one of the most common in the brain...
