    I feel like a fraud

I was in a very similar place to you - certain I ticked many of the boxes yet conscious I lacked many of the common experiences. Eventually I pursued a diagnosis, which was confirmed only four weeks ago. Although it was the result I wanted, I still felt like a fraud, doubting the validity of...

    Just received diagnosis

Thanks for your kind and supportive thoughts. The initial shock has passed and the sadness is receding. I feel a bit hard done to, but it's hard to feel angry about not being diagnosed when Aspergers wasn't even recognised until I was turned 30! The important thing is it's turning on a...

    Just received diagnosis

It's 4 o'clock in the morning, I've been awake for 45 minutes but can't imagine getting back to sleep. I received my diagnosis yesterday and my head is swirling. It's been around 15 months since my counsellor asked whether I'd ever been assessed for autism, and it's been a learning process...

    Aspies and bad time perception?

I do tend to lose track of time - I'll get engrossed in something and the next thing I know it's midnight, and I haven't even eaten! I hadn't considered estimating before, but I'm pretty awful at it. Whether it's the time to get home or to wash the car, I'm absolutely hopeless.

The benefits of finding out later in life that you are an aspie

I’m 57, but it was only last year my counsellor asked if I’d been assessed for Asperger’s. At the time I knew very little about Asperger’s, but once I started researching things began to fall into place. Some of the blogs I read just sent shivers down my spine as they so accurately described...

A possible Aspie wonders about the downside of a diagnosis

Hi there. Thanks for the welcome - I'm finding everyone here is so supportive towards each other. That seems so true, but it's that very variability which is now pushing me get a diagnosis. At least I have managed to contact the local NHS Asperger's Team directly. This is where my GP would...

A possible Aspie wonders about the downside of a diagnosis

Thanks for that, Aspergirl4hire. I've reached the point now were I feel a diagnosis (even if its not Asperger's) is needed to move forward. I discovered Liverpool NHS have an Asperger's Team, so phoned them up today. I was really looking for backup information in preparation for seeing my...

A possible Aspie wonders about the downside of a diagnosis

Thanks for that feedback. Now you mention it, when I think back over the years a few characters spring to mind who seem prime candidates to be Aspies.

A possible Aspie wonders about the downside of a diagnosis

Hi Harrison, Thanks for that. I work in a small company as a computer programmer, but I'm sure there would be no problems here. My concern is more about the future and whether this might go against if I have to apply for another position. Congratulations on your relationship. I was over 40...

A possible Aspie wonders about the downside of a diagnosis

Hi folks I've been lurking here for a few months as I've been reading about Asperger’s. My story began last year when I started seeing a counsellor. After a few sessions she asked whether I'd ever been assessed for ASD. The question seemed really odd - I'd started seeing for help with various...
