    Ghost?...... Do you believe?

Here's the thing about assumptions in science. New data can, in theory, break them, and scientists intentionally try to break them. Way back in the early days of physics, Newton used a type of mass for inertia and a a different type of mass for gravity. However, it's an assumption that's taken...

    Ghost?...... Do you believe?

Just because science assumes materialism doesn't necessarily have to mean that materialism actually is true. I mean, the point of science is to break one's own assumptions and to discover new things beyond them. Of course, reliable evidence is required for that, and no, eyewitness evidence is...

    Ghost?...... Do you believe?

Reliable evidence includes something that's reproducible and verifiable. Firsthand experience and personal testimony is actually pretty terrible evidence because humans have logs of cognitive biases, often stuff like confirmation bias, and human brains are really crappy at storing data. Like...

    Ghost?...... Do you believe?

Skeptic/materialist here. Often people who claim to have evidence of non-material things really don't have a good grasp on what reliable evidence is, sorry. Frequently, "evidence" they provide is incredibly weak, without experimental control, tainted by cognitive biases, or straight up...

I do not think that it's possible for there to be an afterlife, so I don't believe in ghosts.

Lately I've been wearing jeans+flannel a lot. It's getting hotter where I live, so I'll likely start wearing skirts and dresses more soon.

Could be, but not necessarily. Speaking as someone who studies astronomy, space is awesome and so is the evolution of the universe.

There's a scientist named Ben Barres who's a trans man that has talked about his experiences with sexism and unconscious bias against women given his perspective of living being perceived both as male and female...

How do you feel about those who are "transgendered"?

Being trans means that a person's gender is different than what one would assume from their birth sex. Trans people before transitioning are just as trans as trans people after transitioning. It's really rare for a trans person to not want to transition, but I guess it's possible.

    Gibbs Phenomenon

A Fourier series is a way to write a function as an infinite sum of sine and cosine functions. Of course, when dealing with that, one can only ever actually write down an approximation. The Gibbs phenomena happens when one tries to approximate discontinuous functions with as a finite sum of...

How do you feel about those who are "transgendered"?

You seem to have good intentions, so don't worry about it. :) Feel free to ask. I came to this thread as someone to ask questions to since this is a subject that I'm guessing most people don't really know about.
