Texaco 1940s

My family had a couple of those old Ford trucks when I was growing up sitting in the back of the garages. Nice old things. One of them looked just like this picture.

Many of the pre WWII cars had wooden skeleton like frames that the body sheetmetal was attached to. Ford offered an all steel welded body construction that eliminated the severe rusting problems from the sheetmetal loosened itself and trapping water in the wood. The scrap drives of WWII eliminated many prewar rusty cars, but the Fords got saved because they were actually made better.

That's interesting. I remember looking through the cracks in the ancient wooden floorboards and watching the street go by doen there, when I'd go for rides occasionally. My father fired it up once in a while and it was always cool to smell the old machine smells in the truck, the horn sound that made me laugh, and the gear noise which I realize now means he was shifting without a clutch, basically. The 'grandma gear' had the ability to go soo slow even down steep hills. I wish I had one of those trucks, would be awesome.
