I was walking the perimeter checking the fence at the horse pasture today when I heard a sudden somewhat loud noise. I thought it was some kind of bird, but upon looking towards the sound, I saw a white tailed deer running away. I have seen deer at the pasture before but had never heard one make that sound before.

I love it when nature throws us a surprise like that. Reminds me of a chirping bluejay, or so I thought.

Turned out to be a squirrel! Ditto...never heard such a squawk from a mammal before.

exactly! i saw some hummingbirds on my way to school and even at home, it's incredible

One of our local native pigeons takes people by surprise if they've never seen them before. Their wings make squeaky noises when they fly. You'll hear the sound just 10 seconds in to this video:

We have a lot of squirrels here so I am pretty sure I know what sound you are talking about. They use that when they think a predator is nearby.
