Thanks for the advice. Storm passed pretty quickly, just rain now.

I got to see a lot of magnificent storms in the tropics but seeing trees explode made me think that being outside during a storm is not necessarily a good idea. That shrapnel would be pretty nasty if it hit you.

That is terrifying. Omg. I'm pretty sure my old house got hit by lightning once but we had a lightning rod. It was one of the loudest, scariest sounds I've ever heard in my life, though, and all the electronics in the house were fried.

I experienced an earthquake for the first time a year or two ago and that was really something too.

You know it's close when you hear a sizzle just before the boom, when it's that close it doesn't rumble, it goes off like a cannon shot. Tropical storms are very short lived but intense.

Yeah, that's exactly what it sounded like! It was really scary.

Darwin gets a lot of earthquakes, or the effects of them anyway. They happen out in the Banda Sea north west of Darwin and Darwin gets gentle wobbles from them. Minimal damage but it feels really funny when the earth is jiggling around under your feet.

I'd never experienced it before. We rarely ever get earthquakes where I live. I thought the house had been hit by a truck but then the shaking continued lol. Luckily no real damage, but other parts of the region had significant damage to homes and roads.
