I've never been in one, not sure how well I'd deal with it. When I first got my home here now I was used to living in the bush and didn't like the feeling of being shut inside a box so I left my front and back doors propped open all the time for the first couple of years.

I probably worded this wrong- this is a theory that life is a simulation that we are living in, and we are effectively performing for interdimensional beings of some sort. I personally don't believe much in the validity of it, but for my friend, it's a very pervasive fear.

IMO this is too complex a subject to discuss where we are limited to so many characters. Let's just say I accept the reality of being on a secondary plane of existence, but I don't consider it a "simulation", but rather a place intended for spiritual enlightenment. Having nothing to do with my OCD.

Then again, a primary aspect of OCD is having to deal with irrational and non-existent fears of all kinds. Whether benign, lethal or unknown. Perhaps the film, "The Matrix" might have been your friend's trigger. Though personally I cannot relate to this, despite having to deal with OCD on a daily basis.
