From what I remember from school science, bleach is very good at killing proteins. If you have pretty much any undesirable living organism growing in your home, bleach will take care of them.

Chlorine based compounds don't kill all bacteria, just the more common types. That's why people only ever get golden staph infections in hospitals, no other germs around to kill the staph. Bleach also won't kill fungals, but cheap white vinegar does. Use vinegar to clean your shower recess.

I was taught in class earlier this year that hydrogen peroxide is a good sporicide for destroying bacteria types that have spores.

That's interesting about the peroxide, Faye.
I know whiskey has been an impromptu disinfectant. That is probably because of the alcohol being somewhat diluted, like with rubbing alcohol. It allows the alcohol to go through the cell membranes better IF I remember right.
