No. I think people believe it's suspicious not to have any social media because they want to snoop and look you up.

I feel like everyone forgot how important anonymity is online.

I don't have an Instagram or a Snapchat either.

You put yourself out in social media, you are inviting trolls in. Those angry people who stir up things, call you names, put you down. Your social media can be view by prospective employers, do you want to do this still?

@Aspychata It's why I avoid it. Can lead to a lot of problems and I do like my privacy.. but it's seeming I must have it in these times. First thing a young person asks is for your snapchat rather than a phone number.

@honeytoast You can judge a person's status by what they display there. I think that's what it is essentially.

Personally, I don't think many people use Snapchat these days. It was probably bigger, maybe 5-10 years ago, but I would say Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, and TikTok are the main hubs of social media, and, as you said, a lot of it is a status check. A lot of ragebait, a lot of dumb crap, and some memes sprinkled in.

Then there's Discord, but that's more of a chatting platform than social media IMO. When I talk to people, no one asks why I don't have social media or whatever. I just say "I don't like it/too busy to use/not good" and they go "oh okay". No follow-up. I've even been praised for not having social media. We don't always have to be connected.
