I do live near a major international airport and I see planes all the time, but I never see the phantom “plane” that is making this sound.

I also live near the highway but this is definitely not road noise. It’s like a very loud, low, ominous sounding droning noise. I believe the reason it’s unsettling is that it’s infrasound, but I don’t know what would be causing that.

If you live close to an international airport, I'd say there is a huge chance it has something to do with that. But are you sure it's not just the dogs farting? ;) Eight dogs farting in unison, that'll sound like a plane and wake people up.

I do hope the sound stops bugging you. Waking up to strange sounds in the middle of the night is no fun at all.
