Well, I'm happy to report that there is nothing in there, and the only thing I can think of that may have made that noise is a small storage fridge/freezer nearby where we keep raw food for the dogs. I have never heard it make that sound though.

Acoustics in buildings do weird things to sounds.

It was probably just that freezer, they make sounds sometimes. I bought a new refrigerator and in the user manual there was actually a list of different sounds it would make sometimes. 
I'm guessing many people have complained about weird sounds.
