I'm so sorry! This happened to me once, I went in and asked for a trim and they pulled out the clippers and before I knew what was happening they lopped off a huge section of hair. My hair went from just above my shoulders to a buzz cut while I sat there in shock. I was on the verge of tears too :-(

It's horrible because hair takes so long to grow. I do hope the messup wasn't a lot so it grows back soon but obviously would be better if it hadn't happened.

Sorry to hear you're going through this

@MildredHubble That's a horror story. I'd be in tears, not on the verge. I hope that your hair is back to where you want it now.

I agree @Kisa the tea it is horrible when you have patiently cultivated your hair for months or longer and then it's just gone. I really can relate to how @Princess Viola must be feeling right now. When I went through the same thing I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes as I robotically went to pay :-(

@MildredHubble that's pretty much what happened to me. it's not a full buzz cut but like my hair's gone from being to my shoulders to like an inch, inch and a half at the longest.

@Princess Viola I'm so sorry they did that to you! :disrelieved: It must have been so distressing. I was pretty much left with an inch of hair if I was lucky. I kept on pulling at it to try to make it longer. I really hope that it will grow back super quick! I'm sorry that it's something that can't just be reversed :(

@MildredHubble I hope it does too. I usually get a haircut every 6 months or so but this is the first time it's been cut this short.

When it happened to me I felt so weird, like I was more visible :anguished: I think maybe this occurs because we both went to barbers, rather than hair dressers. I suspect they get so used to giving everyone a "short back and sides" that they get carried away? Maybe next time you could go to a "unisex Salon" as they tend to call them here in the UK?

Viola, that's a boy's haircut isn't it? I'm pretty sure Princess anybody would be a clue that you'd like to keep it a ladies' haircut. What to do--Grow it out, don't go back to that barber, & when you want it cut next, Mildred's right about going to a hairdresser and not just a barber. Just ask for "neaten it up & get rid of some split ends."

@Gerontius Well I'm transgender and still closeted so I'm not exactly presenting feminine but like my hair could sometimes pass as feminine to me so that's why this bothers me so much.

Hang in there then, it'll grow and grow. You get to a point in life where you can wear it long, you can turn it loose and let it all grow out. In the meantime, it's not the most feminine-looking I guess, but if you want to do something feels nice, take advantage of the shortness of it & when you take a bath, really massage your scalp when you're washing it. You'll feel cleaner & it is good for the scalp.
