Wrong way around. Its is plural, lots of its. It's is what is known as a contraction, joining two words together because in speech it's easier to use that way.
It's can mean It Is or It Has, but for some people it's a bit confusing. One of the confusing parts is that we also use 's to imply ownership as you mentioned.

"It's" a tricky part of English though. Contractions and articles (a, an, the) always make it a nice game to get it working right.

"It's" can also be meant to imply ownership, the only real way to know which is which is by putting it in context with the other words around it.
It is it's own conundrum.
