Birch is nice, I have a lot of it around here. So it's endangered in Massachusetts? Here it's what everyone use as firewood.

I don’t think you would be allowed to use it for firewood here!
They are declining in numbers here due to extreme heat in the summer and fungal infections.

Yeah birch is known for getting infections. Have you tried birch juice? In the spring you cut off the tip of a small branch and tie a bottle to it to collect the water that comes out. Healthy and delicious.

No I haven’t tried it, but that sounds really good!
Sounds like a very Norwegian thing to do lol

lol maybe it is, I do it every spring. It was more common before but many people still do it. On wikipedia it says "drill a hole in the tree trunk" but that's just stupid. Better to snip the end off a thin branch.

There is a soft drink called birch-beer that is popular in New England as well.

Birch trees are my favorite. They are so beautiful. My very favorite poem is Birches, by Robert Frost.

When I was a child we had a silver birch tree in the front garden. I think it was cut down in the late eighties. Some wood lingered in the shed for over twenty years before it eventually found its way into the wood basket.

I actually have my very own birch tree that grows with me. :D When my dad was born, his parents planted a small birch tree. And when I was born, my dad planted a small birch tree. And they are still standing. My dads tree is 83 years old now so it's pretty big.
