I was seriously considering filming the whole encounter and posting it on here just to show how stupid some people are and how out of control their dogs are, and to show how mine were just passive about it even though they were terrified. Obviously dogs are not robots, and neither are we, but it baffles me how many people won't even sign up for the most basic of obedience classes.

Yeah, it seems often like some people dont even notice what their dogs are doing. We had an incident at a dog park when down in Florida once, this big huge dog was basically terrorizing all the others (and mine is nervous by default) and his useless owner was, whaddya know, on the phone. As far as I could tell, the absolute doorknob wasnt even aware of where his dog even was.

Omg, that's awful... something I always tell my clients is "Don't expect anything from your dog that you haven't taught them." Dogs will do what they please unless they are taught otherwise, and it's up to us to be responsible about it.
It should also be common sense to keep an eye on your dog if you're going to be on the phone, but ideally don't be on the phone at all...

Want to imagine something worse? Those same idiots will have children and treat them the same. But when it all goes terribly wrong it's always someone else's fault. And we don't call them Shepherds here, they have a notorious reputation around sheep and farmers will shoot them on sight. We call the Alsations for that reason.

Yeah, people treating kids like that could be a whole other status topic lol. I have encountered plenty of those too.

I'm not surprised you have had issues with Shepherds/Alsations attacking sheep. I was almost killed by one (unprovoked) and was hospitalized and needed surgery. Prior to that I had one myself with no issues whatsoever. They are obviously not all bad, but people love to hate on Pitbulls when GSDs are responsible for far more fatal attacks. The police use them for a reason.

I respond to parents of unruly children in exactly the same manner that you did with the alsation owner. Usually people clap and cheer because they were too shy to say something themselves. Funny how when I start using my big voice the children instantly behave. :)

I'm actually almost as good with children as I am with animals!
I'm a good example of how punishment-based child rearing doesn't produce good results, but like with dogs, children shouldn't just be left to their own devices all the time and never taught anything. We all need to learn right from wrong :)

I do wonder if Dog V4 was on the spectrum. He couldn't read other dogs so when they looked at him he would kick off. He's learnt to ignore now. With people he wags his tail and flicks his ears. Even people that don't want to say hello to him put a hand down in greeting! BTW, neighbour's dog are shaping up to be just as ill disciplined as their late dog. Nice people but have no idea how to train a dog.
