...the above brought to you by Executive Dysfunction, found in every '90s kid thought to be "gifted" by his parents...

"...having a whole paper to write that I didn't realize needed to be written" sounds like
a (bad) dream come true.

It is. And to cap it off:
My laptop fell from the table, & no longer works.
I'm turning in exams from a cell phone.
I should really just buy a newer computer.
Hurrah for online college--(That's sarcasm. Anyway I want to graduate & leave.)

Laptop parts now incorporated into some...thing, using a bunch of old Windows Vista parts, a pocketknife, a screwdriver, and electric tape. Hewlett Crapper, MacGyver Edition.

So the knife and screwdriver were tools, not incorporated into it as parts.....
OK.

Yep. I had to reattach the power switch ribbon to the motherboard. The next thing I do is buy a... functional computer.

A single board computer with a used monitor could work if you want to be really cheap. If it can process latex you can write papers with it. Using a markup language and writing in a terminal is actually very distraction free and efficient, just not something that is marketable to normal people.

@phantom, for distraction-free writing I generally just use a fountain pen or a manual typewriter. I do have a Pi 4 somewhere in my danger box, and am considering a Linux converted Chromebook, but I miss my Underwood.

@Gerontius you are lucky, raspberry pi 4's have gotten very expensive and are rarely in stock these days.

I picked it up as the base for a project I was making. Never got to finish it.
I dislike computers as much as I dislike dogs and automobiles...sure they are useful, but I'd prefer minimal contact with them, unless they are excellent quality and don't impede normal life.

Why do you dislike computers?
Hazel_1914
Hazel_1914
Because I miss meeting people capable of holding a conversation, and I think major social media has been a net negative for society.

The planet is not in good shape, fascism is making a meme-fuelled comeback, and we seem to be getting dumber. But everyone can play games and listen to music so they seem fine with it.
