What's going on with the milk situation?
Just old? Bad refrigeration? Or what?

None of the above. We get milk delivered in reused glass bottles. The problem is that is the previous user doesn't bother to wash them you get stale milk festering. The company cleans them but it doesn't remove the mouldy milk thus contaminating the refill.

The worst part was that breakfast was chocolate weetabix. Oh the torment of not being able to chew those delicious choc chips

It's absolutely legit and has been running for years. Most people wash the empty bottles before putting them out but some are too lazy which is where the problem starts. The issue is that they are cold washed and disinfected at the dairy. This does not clean the stale milk off, manual scrubbing is needed but they don't check the bottles before re-use.

I'd better clarify that this might happen once a month though in summer it was every few days we'd get a bad one.
