I’m not sure if the media player cuts it off, but at the beginning of the video I threw the toy at him. He held a down/stay the whole time.

Yeah no lie, especially pointers. They have that strong prey drive they've been bred for.

The communication this pointer is doing is flawless, I don't typically see the 'tilt of attention' in trained dogs. :screamcat: unless they're puppies.

English Bull Terriers have impulse control; it's called laziness! This excludes seeing a cat, pigeon or hearing something that might be a food packet rustling.

maybe it´s just me, but I always have a bad feeling when seeing something like this. like that a dog would be something like an experiment or trainings object for amusement or scientific purposes.

I mean he not trains you, you train him. that´s a relationship of might in some way. he has a lead and you guide him and not vice versa. but like I said just how it feels for me, I don´t say that I have knowledge in that. I just feel uncomfortable when seeing such videos or in real life.

everyone is like "oh nice" and I´m the killjoy lol. it´s nothing personally, I just want to say what it makes me feel/how I see it.

It's the opposite with English Bull Terriers. They train their owner to do things they are too lazy to do.

@Shaddock That command is trained for safety reasons. Like so he doesn’t steal food or dangerous objects. Impulse control isn’t taught for “fun.”

okay, makes sense.

@Shaddock . Be aware that a working breed must be trained and worked or they can become delinquent and destructive as can any breed of dog. Luca has mentioned that Enzo was a complete liability when she got him; her hard work has turned him into what he is. He could so easily have been put down instead; Luca saved him from that fate.

As a side note on bad training my neighbours got two new pups after their old dog passed in the summer. All I can hear from them is 'NO, NO, NO.' when they are in the garden with these two pups. I get the strong feeling that these two will be just as bad mannered as their late dog because they don't know how to train.
L
Luca
That’s really unfortunate :( Seeing people not knowing how to train their dogs properly makes me really sad.
I have a magnet on my fridge that says “please train your dog” lol

Oh, they'll love them to bits. I just hope these two don't do the 'pawing at legs like a cat clawing something' trick like their late dog did. Yes, it did hurt!

Regarding aggressive breeds @Shaddock . They MUST be trained or you get the snarling, psycho dog leaping at the end of the lead wanting to kill something. Luca's three will ignore everything and look at her for instruction, she's made them as safe as possible. They're more interested in her than snapping at something while she's out walking which takes a huge amount of time and patience.

Dogs need the brain stimulation and leadership because making decisions as a confused overwhelmed dog which doesnt understand who friends, enemies, rules are, takes a lot of weight off their shoulders and makes them lose their anxiety. Dogs dont have TVs like we have in the house, to entertain them. Thinking and doing commands is fun to them, and useful.

Dogs have a lot of energy, and get ideas that might be unproductive. They get to spend time and communicate with the person they love, the owner.
Dogs are dogs, their wiring works and perceives the world differently.

For a human it seems slavery and cruelty that they do commands, but for dogs, its essential. They were bred for it, and it's natural from wolf behavior too to follow leadership and guidance for the benefit of the pack. Spoiled dogs which are treated like humans are unhappy and unhealthy, actively suffer.
