My first two Dogo Argentinos were rescues from a shelter, and I was a bit naive when I got them, and training them and controlling them properly was a monumental task. I wish I knew then what I know now. They are not an easy breed, and there's a reason I don't encourage people to just go out and buy or adopt one.

As a professional dog trainer and someone who trains real working dogs, I often have to remind people that you should never get a dog because it looks cute, because it's popular, or because you saw it on tv. Dogs are not machines, they are real live beings that need love and affection and lots and lots of training and socialization.

I am also "that person" who is always like, "No, you can't pet my dogs." Lol
I don't always know how they're going to react to strangers. My Newfoundland is gentle and kind and will tolerate anything, the other five have a limit and will let you know with clear body language when they've reached that limit. People who act shady or assertive are a no-go.

People at events are always like "I can't believe you can get a Dogo Argentino to do Obedience!" and what I always tell them is that I'm incredibly persistent and all of my free time is spent training them. My dogs aren't robots either lol, they screw up sometimes, and they act goofy sometimes. Sometimes we will get a high in trial or a qualifying score, and sometimes we don't qualify at all. Sometimes we lose.

There are no perfect dogs, and there are no perfect breeders, owners, or handlers. People will try to sell you that but it's not true.
The best I can do is educate people. That's my job.

Someone trying to out-stubborn an English Bull Terrier....

I don't think it's working.
