i dont really mind country folk unless they do something stupid. The giant pickup truck thing is pretty funny though. For some reason all the people at my highschool just had to get one of those things. Some weird kind status symbol i guess.

The ones around here, although I don't want to generalize too much, do some pretty stupid things. I don't have an issue with country folk in general because I'm one of them too lmao. I definitely own some camo clothes and riding boots and flannel shirts and orange trucker hats btw. I'm just poking fun at the people who are a walking stereotype, and ignorant.

I also grew up working on farms and going to 4H and showing dogs and horses at the county fair. So I'm poking fun at myself here too lol.
I'm just not over the top like the people I'm talking about here. And my lifestyle and location don't have a detrimental impact on my political or social values. I was raised differently than a lot of people here and I also love learning and educating myself.

I've only just read the first message and I am already laughing! :)

That red farmhouse with the belted Galloways is a beauty visually. Maybe one day some progressives will live there! ;) Your area sounds like ours...but with prettier houses.

@Callistemon Lmao xD
The pictures I linked are actual photographs of my little backwoods redneck Massachusetts town lol. I'm sure you'll find some of them weirdly amusing. I can also supply some I've taken myself.

I've described my neighbors and clients as "unhinged" in some other posts and the more I get to know them, the more you're gonna want to get some popcorn LOL

Those belted Galloways are so sweet and my dogs are fascinated by them. I have some photos I can send you! There are lots of beautiful farms here but the people who run most of them are very un-progressive. There is a suburban part of town (where I live) and a rural part (where my parents live.) The people in either location are not vastly different lol.

When I first moved to this neighborhood, everyone was so sweet to me and I thought they were all nice regular people, and then I started getting to know them more and seriously regretting it. The thing that terrifies me the most is that I have no idea where some of them stand in terms of beliefs. It's impossible to guess. I'd rather have a basic sense of it.

Like if their values are obvious, I either know to interact, or don't. It's the silent ones that get to me because I can't read them. I assume everyone is conservative unless they give me some indication that they're not. But I am often shocked and horrified by who believes what around here. Some people seem real innocent until something about the police, or gay people, or Jesus, comes up.

I'm also, like, not that dark in terms of skin tone, but I'm not "white" and I have a standout eye color. So for the people here who are like 99.99999999% Irish Catholic, I "don't look like one of them." There is one other Hispanic person and a couple of Black families here and I think they are just as terrified as I am.
L
Luca
One of the cringiest things for me is that my community management hires Hispanic immigrants to clean... which includes cleaning the dumpsters and the dog poop bins :( :( :( They occasionally try to have conversations with me in Spanish, because they are probably relieved that I don't look like everyone else!

I don't think I've ever mentioned that on here because I know racism can be kind of a taboo topic (although it shouldn't be), but I always think about the fact that they do that and it's horrible!!! Literally because they need the money and they're willing to do it. It's exploiting immigrants and the working class. And obviously reeks of racism.

Same here. After a few years of listening patiently to conspiracy theories and right-wing garbage I lost my patience and decided I didn't ever want to hear another conspiracy theory ever again!

Just got completely allergic to it. Also to local people wondering why my husband and I had voted YES for marriage equality... OMG. No skin off their nose. Why are some people such begrudgers? And why are some people so interested in what other people do in their own bedrooms? Honestly.

I think some people here now think we're Satanists because we're LGBTIQ friendly. We put it in our farmstay profile too because it seems LGBTIQ friendly farmstay is often an oxymoron... had some lovely same-sex couples staying with us. Would hate for them to be staying with a moralising down-your-noser.

Bunch of Pharisees that they are.

Photos, yes please! And yeah, if they won't wear a badge declaring their values, maybe you could - a rainbow shirt might be a good BS filter unless they don't understand what it means...

A friend who lives in the States is Irish-white but because she was dirt-poor as a kid was spat upon by the rich whites...
